Roundworms can be contracted by both you and your dog. Almost all puppies get roundworms. They can be transmitted by ingesting infected soil or fecal matter or by eating infected animals, like rodents.

Hookworms can infect animals and people by accidental ingestion of the eggs or penetration through the skin. A. caninum is the most commonly found species of hookworm in the U.S.
